Celebrating Science and Technology Week...Sunnybrae Style

We celebrated Science and Technology Week with lots of hands on activities to make learning FUN

Exploring magnetism using magnets...

Using thermometers to measure body temperature and ICE!!

Using our design and engineering skills to make things using Lego and Dacta

Learning about our body parts and making a life size human!

Making an umbrella using a ruler, cardboard, plastic bags and LOTS OF SELLOTAPE in the junior school technology challenge!

The homework challenge for the week was a huge success. Many children made a kite at home and brought it to school on Friday. Our buddy class Room 11 helped us to fly them. There were kites of all shapes, colours and sizes. Well done to everyone who had a go at making a kite!

Our Trip on the Rain Forest Express

On Tuesday the juniors went for a trip on the Rain Forest Express in the Waitakere Ranges. We saw the pipeline that took water from the Upper Nihotupu Dam to the water treatment station.

The Upper Nihotupu Dam was amazing and so huge!

We went in some dark tunnels....and saw some large wetas!

Fun Run Fever

On the last day of term one we had our school Fun Run. It was an exciting day!
There were lots of supporters from Room 14

A New Zealand Olympic swimmer call Danyon Loader visited. He showed the children one of his gold medals.

We were all nervous at the start....

It didn't take long until we reached the spectacular finish line!

Using the Mimio.

The Mimio is like an interactive whiteboard. Below, Hannah shows us how she used it to draw her teddy bear picture. Well done Hannah!

Computer Art

During our "Teddy Bear" theme, we had a go at drawing teddy bears on a computer programme called Kid Pix. It was tricky, but we liked the challenge of drawing with the mouse!
Look at these fantastic pictures.
