Ice Pick Up

Can you pick up a block of ice using a piece of string???
We worked in small groups to explore this. Some groups managed to do this and some groups couldn't.

We learned that the salt melts the ice around the string making a little puddle. After a few minutes, the coldness from the ice cube freezes the little puddle of water into ice again around the string. This lets you pick up the ice cube.

Our Chinese Dragons

On Friday some children from Room 14 shared the Chinese dragons that they made at our junior syndicate assembly. If you listen carefully, you will hear the children describing their dragons. Can you see what materials we have used to make them?

What Will Happen If

We have started our new science topic. We will be exploring what will happen when we mix a variety of substances.
We started with a fun activity.
What will happen if you mix dish liquid, bubble bath, or shampoo with water?
We learned that if you used too much water, the mixture will be diluted or weak. But, if you only use a little bit of water, you make....BUBBLES..and lots of them!

The highlight of the week was when The Bubble Man came and visited the Juniors. He made some wonderful gigantic bubbles. We also learned about mixtures. Some mixed together, some separated and some caused a reaction!

Our Circle of Friends

We've joined together as classmates
as the new year begins...
A year full of learning
while we become friends.
We'll share and be kind
as we work and play.
Our friendship will grow
with each passing day.

Our School Values

This week we have been talking about out school values. RICE
R for respect
I for independence
C for co-operation
E for excellence

In class we talked about what each word meant. We made a display in our classroom.
During class activities we have been practising these values as we work in small groups with other children
