Term 2 week4

This week we put on our thinking hats and did a “question key” activity with Mrs Cornelius. The answer is water . What is the question? Read some of our questions.




Have a go at doing this fun activity about solids, liquids and gases.



In strand maths, we have been learning about 2D shapes and 3D shapes in geometry. Can you name the shape that looks like a “stop” sign? A shape that looks like an egg? One that looks like the roof of a house? A shape that has 2 long sides and 2 short sides? One that has 4 sides that are all the same size? And a shape that is round?


Can you name these 3D shapes?
Look around your house and see if you can find these 3D shapes.

We have been using this fun activity to learn about heating and cooling water.

Learning With Our Buddy Class

We have been meeting up with our buddies each Friday. They have been teaching us how to play some of the games in our class. We love learning from our year 6 buddies in Room 11 !!!!

Term 2 week 3

Mrs Smith has been a valuable helper in our class on a Wednesday and Friday. We read to her when she visits us.
Thanks for coming in and helping us Mrs Smith!


In theme this week we looked at the blocks of ice that we put in the freezer last week. We froze a balloon and a glove filled with water. We were fascinated by the size, shape and how the frozen ice felt. We learned that water froze at 0 degrees, that frozen water expands and that ice floats.

In strand maths, we have been learning about shapes in geometry. We have been learning to identify shapes and talk about some special features of these shapes. We have an interactive whiteboard called a Mimio in our class. We used the Mimio and drew some shapes by joining the dots. It was tricky using the Mimio pen…….

In art we have been learning to do pencil sketches of fish. We explored using thick and thin lines to draw our fish. We thought about patterns too....

Term 2 week 2

This week in theme time we explored some of the properties of ice. We put ice in a bowl and observed it. We felt it and added food colouring to it. We then took it outside and watched it melt…it was so fun.

We then filled up a glove and a balloon with water and we put it in the freezer. You can see from our faces that we were so excited. We can’t wait to see how the ice looks!!

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY
To all those wonderful mothers out there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We made cards using “Wordle”. We thought of words to describe our mothers and created a couple of exciting layouts…. Click on the image below to enlarge it

Week 1 Term 2

We have had a great start to term two. Our topic this term is Water. We thought about what we already knew about water and wrote a definition…..it was tricky to explain just what water was!!! At the end of this study, we will think about what we have learned and write some more definitions.
Our work was done on KidPix. We used the text box to write our definition and saved our own work on the desktop. Click on the images below to make them BIGGER.
