The Hungry Praying Mantis

Today Martin brought in a brownish coloured Praying Mantis to school that he had caught in the weekend. After school today, our teacher caught an insect in the classroom and put it in the container. The Praying Mantis caught the insect with it's strong front legs and started to eat it straight away. We learned that they are carnivores which means they eat other insects. We are now looking for other insects to catch!

Wow what a great photo. It's amazing how a praying mantis can bounce on its prey. We have read a reader about the praying mantis in room 2 - you might like to come and get it from us. We will keep an eye out for an insect or two for your praying mantis - maybe you might be able to find the cricket that escaped in your classroom the other week!!
